A major benefit of having an LTC means that buying firearms from a Federal Firearms Licensee (“FFL) is a smoother transaction because you've already had a background check done. You can also carry your gun in places and states where you wouldn't be allowed to carry it without a LTC. Should I Get a Texas LTC? The answer is yes. Texas passed the haul without a permit and it will be great for a lot of people.

While it's a big step forward, it comes with limitations and restrictions that you don't have with a license to carry. The Texas DPS says a handgun license can be used as an alternative to National Instant Criminal Record Check System (NICS) verification. The NICS verification process is intended to deter criminals and others who would otherwise not be eligible to purchase a gun. Prospective buyers are told to fill out an ATF form so that NICS staff can conduct a background check on the buyer and verify eligibility.

The FBI website says that, since its launch in 1998, more than 300 million checks have been carried out, leading to more than 1.5 million denials. Constitutional carry, or carry without permission, has been adopted by 15 states in the United States. This makes it possible to carry a gun without a permit or license. In Texas, a license is currently required to carry hidden or open objects within the state and is issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Training and background requirements must be met to qualify to receive an LTC. The fact that Texas is a “must issue” state means that if you meet the minimum requirements, you will be issued a license. It will be limited only to other states of non-permit transportation that allow non-residents to carry without a license. The department must still process applications, conduct background checks, and produce a laminated license for those who qualify.

Taking a license to carry class and moving forward with obtaining a license gives you some additional legal protections. Even in a constitutionally held state, you'll need to be very careful not to unintentionally violate certain state or federal laws that licensed gun owners may be exempt from under certain circumstances. But with the new law in place, 30.05 establishes a new option for property owners to allow licensed owners to carry. At an airport, license holders have protections related to the accidental transportation of a firearm in the insured area.

However, there are still some valid reasons to take a license to carry (LTC) class and get an LTC, even if you don't technically have to. In addition, a license to carry class generally covers a wide range of topics that anyone who owns, carries, or uses a handgun will likely appreciate knowing. A veteran with a handgun license could use it to get veteran discounts on businesses that choose to offer them. The Texas Department of Public Safety is still required to process handgun license applications, conduct background checks, and produce a laminated license for those who qualify.

This would allow anyone 21 years of age or older who can legally possess and possess a handgun to hide or open carry without the need for a license.
